DUNLOP RIDER COURTNEY DUNCAN BEGINS WMX TITLE DEFENCE WITH VICTORY

March 3rd, 2020.

The 2019 FIM Women’s Motocross World Champion (WMX), Courtney Duncan, kicked off her title defence with a commanding victory at the opening round of 2020 held at a wet and windy Matterley Basin, UK at the weekend. The New Zealand rider was unfazed by the difficult conditions to ride her Dixon Racing Team Kawasaki to both race wins and maximum points. Fellow Dunlop rider Kiara Fontanesi returned from a year out due to maternity leave to celebrate an impressive third-place finish overall.

Courtney was delighted to achieve overall victory and praised the performance of the Dunlop tyres: “I am very happy with the way the weekend went in the season opener, it’s great to be leaving here with maximum points but obviously we have a lot of work to do to get back to where I want to be but we have time on our side. The Dunlop Geomax MX-33 tyres worked well and gave me a lot of traction at the start.”

Dunlop Geomax MX-33
Designed and developed for soft-terrain, the MX-33 was the tyre of choice for all the Dunlop riders competing in the opening round of the 2020 season at Matterley Basin, UK.

Eddy Seel, Dunlop’s MXGP Event Leader stated: “The Geomax MX-33 has been designed to suit soft terrains like mud or sand. This was evident in the performance of Courtney Duncan who benefited from the MX-33’s versatility to win both her races.”

The MX-33 provides optimised performance combined with improved durability when used on intermediate terrain. The key benefits of the tyre include wide terrain coverage, improved block angle and improved damping, ideal for the ruts and bumps of Matterley Basin.

Dunlop’s tyre technology is evident with the MX-33 as it includes their progressive cornering block technology, multiple block distribution, carcass tension control system and advanced apex design. These technologies improve traction, cornering stability and predictability on ever-changing terrain.

The next round of the FIM World Motocross Championship is at Valkenswaard, the Netherlands on March 8th.
