AMPED & MECCA-X LAUNCH SOUTH EAST ELECTRIC BALANCE BIKE CHAMPIONSHIP

January 23rd, 2026.

Amped Bikes, one of the UK’s leading manufacturers of accessible youth electric balance bikes, has joined forces with the rapidly-expanding Kent and Sussex-based Mecca-X series to introduce the Amped Mecca-X EV electric balance bike championship.

The six-round series is designed to provide an enjoyable, inclusive, and progressive electric balance bike platform, to introduce young riders to motorsport while supporting their development from novice rider through to competitive racing. Amped Mecca-X EV will offer a clear and structured pathway that prioritises enjoyment, confidence, and skill-building, while allowing riders to compete on machinery suited to their age, size, and ability.

The first round of this new junior championship will take place on Saturday the 11th of April 2026 at Sellindge MX in Kent. Running alongside the third round of the Mecca-X Club Championship, the classes will be open to all marques of electric balance bikes and riders that meet the criteria. The classes will cater for the following;

Electric Balance 12 (ages 3–5 years) 100–250W motor, 12-inch wheels
Electric Balance 16 (ages 3–7 years) 170–350W motor, 16-inch wheels
Electric Balance 18 (ages 5–10 years) 350–500W motor, 18-inch wheels
Electric Balance 20 (ages 8–14 years) 540–800W motor, 20-inch wheels

Four of the rounds will be held at the same venue and on the same weekend as the Mecca-X Championship, with the remaining two rounds to be confirmed.

Commenting on the new initiative, Dave Willet of Mecca-X said; “It’s great to be working directly with a brand such as Amped Bikes to achieve something that is genuinely designed for young riders. We’ve created a clear progression route that gives kids the chance to develop their skills and confidence from an early age, all in the right environment.”

Henry Maplethorpe of Amped Bikes added; “Our Amped range of bikes is increasing in popularity with parents and children who want the buzz of riding a powered off-road bike safely, at a low-cost, and in a competitive field where different brands can line up against each other. We identified the lack of facilities for young electric balance bike racers in the South East, and are confident that our collaboration with Mecca-X will satisfy this demand.”

To further support young riders, the series will feature tracks specifically designed for electric balance bikes. The layouts will focus on safety and enjoyment, ensuring an age-appropriate racing experience that encourages learning while maintaining the emphasis on fun.

Further details, including the full race calendar and event information, will be announced shortly.
