DVLA SUPPORTS BLOOD BIKES WALES CHARITY

April 16th, 2021.

The Driver & Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) has chosen Blood Bikes Wales as its charity of choice for the second consecutive year.

Blood Bikes Wales, based in Cardiff, uses a network of volunteers to transport emergency blood supplies and other vital items to the NHS across Wales by motorcycle.

Throughout 2021, DVLA staff will take part in a range of fundraising activities in their own time to support the charity’s crucial work.

During the pandemic Blood Bikes Wales increased its operating hours to 24 hours a day and, in some parts of Wales, seven days a week, helping to support the fight against COVID-19.

DVLA Chief Executive, Julie Lennard said; “I am thrilled that we are continuing to support Blood Bike Wales this year. While it was difficult for many of the usual fundraising activities to go ahead last year, staff rose to the challenge magnificently and came up with lots of innovative ideas for raising money.”

The Motorcycle Industry Association (MCIA) says the work of Blood Bikes Wales is a perfect example of how the significance of motorcycles has risen during the country’s response to the pandemic. CEO Tony Campbell added; “As the industry association for all things PTW (Powered Two Wheeler), the MCIA is delighted that DVLA has continued to support Blood Bikes Wales as its charitable partner and looks forward to the charity’s profile in Wales growing as a result.

“Blood Bikes Wales volunteers come from many different backgrounds and, during the pandemic, their work has helped ensure that vital medical supplies arrive where they are needed, when they are needed. The National Association of Blood Bikes has been providing this service for nearly fifty years, but its importance has increased during the current crisis, and it’s great to see how this is being recognised.”
