The MCIA today released a new reporting format covering model styles. After over a decade in the previous format, it was decided that a new approach to defining model styles was long overdue. As the market has evolved, the sector has seen many new style categories arrive, which were impossible to report on in the previous format accurately. The MCIA will be providing full details explaining the new reporting in due course.

The June 2021 Powered Two Wheeler (PTW) registration statistics show another impressive increase of 11.2% at 14,863 units against the same month in 2020, and 28% up on the 11,643 units for June 2019.

As new riders are able to access training and testing, dealerships are seeing the return of those looking to update their motorcycle for UK adventures, along with increased demand from those who have discovered and converted to PTWs as an affordable, green and convenient commuting option. With Government guidance changing in the coming weeks to more office-based working, we see this as a continuing trend as PTW’s offer a solution to transport headaches created by crowds, congestion and cost. Whilst we all hope COVID is moving behind us, commuters will be urged to travel safely, and there is no better way than using a PTW.

With more incredible year on year growth in the electric segment of 153.4% at 636 units, electric continues to be a serious contender for market share, offering the many PTW benefits, all with zero emissions.

The high percentage increases over the June 2020 figures must of course be viewed in consideration of the negative effects of Covid on those June 2020 figures.
