Motorcycle Trader contributor Ian Kerr has been awarded an MBE in the Queen's birthday honours list 2013.
An MBE is awarded for significant achievement, or outstanding service to the community, and 'our' Ian James Kerr - retired police officer - received his recognition for 'services to motorcycle safety'. After 30 years active service, Ian retired from the police force in 2006 and has since worked with Yamaha developing police bikes, as well as sitting on the Association of Industrial Road Safety Officers (AIRSO) panel, where he continues to play an integral part as motorcycle safety advisor.
Ian, who for many years managed to combine his police duties with freelance motorcycle journalist activities servicing the UK's motorcycle press together with police and various association house magazines, was somewhat bemused to have been bestowed with this honour. "I have to say that I am surprised but extraordinarily proud to accept this recognition for motorcycling and, in particular, safety and safe riding practices. I sit alongside some very, very worthy recipients and, whilst a little baffled at being nominated, I'm pleased that it effectively puts motorcycling on the national press map."
