Feeling stuck in a rut, Mark Williams, in his Trader April 2020 column, takes aim at the authorities whose job it is to repair the holes in Britain’s decaying infrastructure.


"I’ve written about the parlous state of Britain’s roads before, but recent events in God’s Own Motorcycling Country compel me to do so again. If you or your customers have fallen foul of a pothole or a poorly repaired surface recently, you’re no doubt feeling similarly angry.

"We have undergone a particularly wet winter – floods and relentless surface water have conspired to degrade our roads, particularly rural B-roads and lesser highways. Which of course is no excuse for the lack of repairs. A friend of mine recently came off his Triumph Trophy – the Meriden not the Hinckley variety – when, after returning from abroad, he rounded a familiar corner and hit a four-inch-deep pothole. Said orifice had been identified with a squirt of white paint, then ignored .... "
