MX2 SERIES LEADERS PRAISE DUNLOP TYRES

August 12th, 2024.

Since the start of the FIM Motocross World Championship season, Nestaan Husqvarna teammates Kay de Wolf and Lucas Coenen have secured 10 out of a possible 14 Grand Prix wins in the highly competitive MX2 class. The championship leaders reflect on their most successful season to date and explain why their Dunlop tyres have helped their stellar performance.

De Wolf, 19, and Coenen, 17, are competing in only their second full-time MX2 campaigns but have established themselves as the riders to beat right since the start of the season. De Wolf dominated the start of the season, taking a hat-trick of overall Grand Prix wins in Argentina, Spain and Sardegna, before continuing his winning streak with further triumphs in Indonesia, Czech Republic and Flanders. Coenen, meanwhile, took three in a row in Galicia, France and Germany, before capturing the second Indonesian round. This domination has put de Wolf top of the standings, ahead of Coenen.

“When I first tested the Dunlop Geomax MX34 tyres, I instantly noticed that it was much softer and provided significantly more grip at the front and greater traction at the rear,” explains de Wolf. “We take it for granted sometimes, but I think we have an excellent set of tyres at the moment, because we’re really strong all around and we’re outperforming the competition. We should be very happy with that.”

Dunlop provides a range of development and off-the-shelf tyres from its Geomax motocross range to all its supported riders in the MX2, MXGP and WMX classes. Geomax MX34 is designed for a wide range of soft, mud and intermediate surfaces, while the sand-focused MX14 provides traction on loose surfaces and MX53 offers further capability on hardpack.

The most popular choice this season, Geomax MX34 delivers improved cornering performance and front and rear slide control versus its predecessor, providing the straight-line stability and corner control that is crucial for riders to perform at their best in World Championship competition. The rear pattern allows riders to accelerate confidently on soft, mud and intermediate tracks, contributing to race-winning lap times. Adding to that is the next-generation Progressive Cornering Block Technology (PCBT), which facilitates superior absorption and improved ground contact for optimal traction and performance.

“The Dunlop tyres including MX34 are fantastic, because they provide the grip and traction I need to be competitive,” adds Coenen. “They help me push the bike and myself to the limit, which allows me to fight for podiums on different terrains and in various conditions.”

Wim Van Achter, Motorsport Manager, Dunlop Motorcycle Europe, added: “Seeing Lucas Coenen and Kay de Wolf consistently on the top step of the podium is fantastic and shows how a combination of their exceptional talent and the great performance of our Geomax motocross tyres leads to great results. Their trust in Dunlop is a source of pride for our team, and we’re excited to see what the rest of the season holds.”
