PUTOLINE OIL CELEBRATES 50TH

April 20th, 2020.

Putoline celebrates 50 years of producing motorcycle and scooter lubricants and associated products this month.

From humble beginnings, when Dutch motorsports enthusiast Jan Put started the company out of a shed in his backyard, the brand has grown into a global player yet it remains fiercely independent.

When Put founded Putoline Oil back in April 1970, the range consisted of lubricants for bicycles and mopeds. However, thanks to Put’s love of motocross, the portfolio quickly grew and now offers a substantial range with unique product lines for all motorised two-wheelers both on, and off-road. The brand is now exported to around 40 countries worldwide.

Putoline has been distributed in the UK since the seventies and since 2004 owned by John and Sally Hayden who, as Putoline Distribution, took the brand to new levels. Whilst the firm now operates under the umbrella name of Neo Distribution, with a select number of non-competing niche-market, quality brands, Putoline has always been its core focus.

“Putoline has a strong heritage in off-road,” said Hayden. “We have had huge success in the sector through sponsorship at grass roots and national racing. It’s a discipline that has been crucial to our business. We are well known for our huge market share within the off road sector but this only makes up about 40% of our UK sales! The bulk of our sales comes from the road market due to our massive range of lubricants for scooters, sports bikes, touring and adventure machines. As well as our expansive range of road bike maintenance and cleaning products.

“The Putoline factory in the Netherlands is always looking for new ideas and quickly responds to market developments. We’re proud to be its largest customer and look forward to celebrating many more anniversaries together.”
