- All businesses that are putting packaging on to the EU market must comply.

- Packaging must be recyclable, minimally wasteful and clearly labelled; unnecessary packaging and harmful substances must be avoided; and reuse/refill options must be offered on certain products.

- Micro-enterprises are exempt from certain rules but must still meet the core requirements.

- The packaging and packaging waste regulation (PPWR) (Regulation (EU) 2025/40) is being introduced by the EU to replace the previous Packaging and Packaging Waste Directive (PPWD).
